Reproductive Behaviour (R)

Reproductive behaviours are any activity directed toward perpetuation of a species. These typically include courting, mating and parent offspring interactions.

Horses typically display a polygynous mating system, where one male forms a bond with and breeds several females (female defence polygyny). These breeding units are called bands. The structure of this type of band is called a harem, where a group of females is guarded by a single male who mates them and drives off other males attempting the same.
